What is a Charcuterie Board?

A charcuterie board is typically an arrangement of cheese, meat, crackers, and other finger-food snacks organized in an eye-pleasing manner and served on a board. A stylish snack board, if you will. I love making these boards throughout the year because they are just perfect for creating a moment to slow down and spend time with my family while we munch away on our favorite snacks. Which makes this edible arrangement an easy go-to for Valentine’s Day. However, I want to do a special twist on this classic and take it from a cheese board to a candy board.

A “Forget-Me-Not” Valentine’s Candy Board

The most fun part about these snack boards, besides eating all the yumminess, is setting them up and arranging the snacks in a charming display. They can be almost too pretty to eat. But how does one substitute the classic set-up of a cheese board to fit the candy theme for Valentine’s Day?

  • Instead of crackers, go for cookies. I suggest using a mix of both crispy and soft cookies to compliment the other food textures on the board.
  • Replace the usual finger foods with a wide variety of candies. Grab some soft candy, crunchy candy, sour candy, or whatever kind of candy you enjoy. Preferably the red, pink, and white versions, if available.
  • Don’t forget the heart candy and, of course, the chocolate candies.
  • To achieve a perfectly aesthetic Valentine’s charcuterie board, you might want to consider a mouth-watering centerpiece.

The Perfect Centerpiece for a Valentine’s Snack Board

For my charcuterie boards, I like to sometimes have a centerpiece in my arrangements. So, what is the perfect centerpiece for this lovely festive arrangement? Look no further than my chocolate-dipped strawberries! Why are my strawberries perfect? Because I have experimented and found the overall easiest solution to making the best chocolate-dipped strawberries. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for beautifully decorated strawberries and an easier prep and clean up process.

  • A candy-melt pot easily outperforms a fondue pot in cooking, cleaning, and easier storing.
  • For an aesthetically pleasing look, alternate dipping between melted pink candy melts and dark or white chocolate chips, then use an opposing candy color for the drizzles.
  • Use pastry bags with the tip cut off for even drizzling.
  • Don’t hold back on the sprinkles! I suggest using a mix of pink and red sprinkles and, of course, plenty of heart sprinkles.
  • If you are packaging a charcuterie board as a gift, use small cupcake liners to separate each strawberry and keep them looking nice and neat.
  • Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Times are changing and so are the ways we celebrate. It is ok to evolve traditions and try new things, especially in the kitchen! Say farewell to those lame chocolate box arrangements you find in stores that usually contain at least one or two undesirable flavors. Instead, go for a touch of homemade with love.

Even if you buy the candies and cookies in the store, you are taking the time to pick out and arrange your loved one’s favorite snacks in an awe-inspiring and mouth-watering display. And if you try out my method for the best chocolate-dipped strawberries as the main feature of your Valentine’s candy board, then you have at least one homemade food item in your setup.
