"Easy, easy, easy! I can't count the compliments I've received from these. I used to take three of them to bake sales when I worked. They always sold first! They just look so yummy, people think you just had to work very hard and long on them! I got this recipe from my mom at least 30 yrs ago and my family has enjoyed them ever since! I was out of pecans once and the kids begged for them so I made them anyway and they were almost as good. If you have a timer on your stove, you can set it for the baking time to begin and end. The wonderful aroma will wake you up! Set your alarm anyway,,don't want to ruin a good thing! I hope this becomes a family favorite of yours too. Also, the first time you make them, watch them closely not to over or undercook the rolls. use 1 large round platter or pizza pan covered with foil. They look awesome on a fancy platter"

ingredients

  • 1 (22 count) package rhodes frozen dinner rolls (or your favorite brand)
  • 1 (3 1/2 ounce) box butterscotch pudding mix (NOT instant)
  • 12 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 34 - 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 12 cup pecan pieces (or more)
  • cooking spray

directions

  • All this is done the night before: spray your bundt pan well and place evenly the frozen rolls in pan. Sprinkle the dry butterscotch pudding (instant will not work) evenly on top of rolls and sprinkle pecan pieces over pudding powder (add pecans 2nd, not last).
  • Heat the butter to just melted, not hot in microwave and stir in brown sugar. If the butter is too hot, the brown sugar will separate and be hard to blend together pour brown sugar/butter syrup over rolls evenly.
  • That's it!
  • Place bundt pan in the cold oven overnight.
  • When you arise the next morning, set the oven temp to 325°F
  • Check the rolls FIRST before turning oven on to see if they rose over the top of the bundt pan. If they did, push the rolls hanging over back GENTLY.
  • Don't remove rolls while the oven is heating, leave inches.
  • Bake about 25 minutes until rolls seem firm on top and done in the middle, but don't over bake.
  • Remove bundt pan from oven and let cool 5-10 minutes in pan (I usually wait only 5 minutes).
  • Have ready a platter or pizza pan (holes covered) big enough to hold the rolls being careful not to burn yourself, place platter over the top of Bundt pan and quickly invert.
  • Do this over the counter top so if some spills, it won't get on the floor.
  • All that's left is to enjoy!
  • Company or family will think you slaved hours, it looks so yummy.
  • This is great for bake sales also.
  • Tip: don't put over 22-24 at most rolls in the pan.
  • I always use just 22.
  • Any more and they will rise over the top of the pan and hang over.
  • If this happens, while rolls are cooling, carefully push back the edges of the rolls and gently push down on the top of them.
  • I use more butter and sugar than other recipes because my family really likes alot of caramel.
  • However, you could cut back the butter to 1/2 stick and the sugar 1/2 cup.
  • I just prefer too much to too little.
  • The caramel can be scooped up and put toward the middle rolls.

  1. Has anyone tried adding cinnamon? I made the recipe as directed and it was sooo good! I want to make again but I have to leave out the nuts due to a friend's allergy. Wondered if cinnamon would ramp up the flavor since I would be leaving b out the nuts? Tia!

  1. I've been making these for years and prefer using a 9x13 cake pan. The caramel sauce is able to get to all of the rolls more evenly.

  2. i have been making this for years and just happened to come across the recipe here so i had to say how AMAZING these are. we have it every christmas morning - i wake up, turn on the oven, and by the time the kids are done opening their presents, we have a delicious breakfast waiting for us. also, i use 24 rolls and bake at 350 for 30 min and they come out perfect every time. oh yeah, i also put the pecans on the very bottom of the pan and use an angel food cake pan so they don't overflow.

  3. These are absolutely amazing!! I have made them twice in one week and will be making them for another event tomorrow. Thank you for a wonderful, tasty, and easy recipe.

  4. These rolls are so incredibly easy! I've made these rolls quite a few times already, following the recipe as written. Everyone loves them! I buy Rhodes dinner rolls (36 count) and use 1/2 of the bag. I use an angel food cake pan, so I have never had a problem with the rolls exploding. My pan does come apart, so I wrap the bottom of the pan in aluminum foil and set the pan on a cookie sheet, just in case. Thank you for the awesome recipe, peppermintkitty!

  5. These tasted great, but I would suggest using fewer rolls. Mine were done on the outside, but still "raw" in the middle. Fewer rolls will also lessen rising over edge of pan.

I am retired and live in Oklahoma. We use to raise scottish terriers, but now just enjoy having 3..one of which is a rare wheatland scotty. We have 2 grown daughters and my oldest has my grandson & granddaughter. Katy is almost 13 now, and I love and cherish the time she spends with me. My youngest dd is FINALLY having a baby,,a little girl due on April 1 '05. We are very excited! Hubby and I love taking out our pontoon boat every chance we get...we love to fish, but I'm happy just to be out on the water :) I love all kinds of cookbooks, especially southwest and cooking for two meals. Of course Zaar is the best recipe site on the net! I've started copying zaar recipes for my granddaughter and she says she'll never be able to make them all :) My hobbies include my dogs,,grandkids, painting art hobbies, and most crafting...love garage sales too!! I really love working outside in my gardens, but health and "old bones" keep me from it more than it used to. My hubby and I love to travel and also fish. I have used this site for awhile now and I'm embarrassed I haven't shared more of mine. Guess I've been busy making yours! When I have a question, the members here are so friendly, helpful and very quick to answer back! Of course, you've figured by now I love to talk!! I have to say my love for cooking comes from my mom. She is one of those cooks that just gets into the kitchen and starts cooking with no recipes and everything she makes is wonderful! She's about the best "all around cook" I know! I'd like to think I "inherited" some of her cooking intuition :) But getting close to 80 (sorry mom, but you sure don't look it) she cooks circles around me!
